Biography

András Déri is a performing artist, choreographer, dancer, actor, movement researcher and teacher with an interdisciplinary approach.
He is freelancing internationally and making his own artistic work based in Budapest as an independent artist and choreographer. Currently he also works and tours worldwide as a performer with the German Cocoon Dance Company based in Bonn. In 2019 he was a resident artist and from 2020 a member of the L1 Association in Hungary.

He was born and grew up up in the Hungarian countryside called Hortobágy, and has been practicing various forms of urban dance styles (locking, popping, hip hop, house, bboying) since the age of 6, with striking achievements in his childhood. His passion in Hip Hop culture has been continuing until today, and he is known as one of the versatile “all style” urban dancers, who integrates that knowledge in contemporary dance and vice versa.

His artistic ambition started at the Benedictine Boarding School of Pannonhalma in an autodidactic manner. After beginning his dance studies at the Duncan Centre in Prague and at the Rotterdam Dance Academy, he graduated at the Training and Research Cycle of P.A.R.T.S. (Performing Arts Research and Training Studios) in 2014 in Brussels, Belgium. He received his BA degree in 2021 at the Budapest Contemporary Dance Academy, where he is currently doing an MA in dance pedagogy. 

In the past years, he has worked with Alessia Gatta (IT), Ádám Fejes (HU), Kata Juhász (HU), Daniel Linehan (US/B), Zsuzsa Rózsavölgyi (H), Jan Jakubal (CZ/AT) and László Fülöp (H).

He has been touring as a performer, choreographer and teacher on almost all continents in several countries (all of Europe, Chile, Uruguay, Argentina, Haiti, Namibia, India, China etc.), venues (Opera de Lille, Opera de Marseilles, KaaiTheater – Bruxelles Theatre du Crochetan, Ringlokschuppen Ruhr, PACT Zollverein, Tanzhause NRW Düsseldorf, Die Börse Wuppertal, Trafo – Budapest, Korzo – The Hague etc.) and festivals (New Baltic Dance, Beijing Dance Festival, Tanzplattform 2018, Attakkalari Dance, Fusion Festival, Montpellier Danse, DunaPart etc.) After  performing at the German Tanzplattform in 2018 he received the nomination „Dancer of the Year” in the critics’ poll of the specialist journal “tanz” 2018 by Dorion Weickmann (Süddeutsche Zeitung, Jahrbuch tanz 2018)
